Donald Trump to producers: move the factory from China to the United States. Talks are underway with TSMC, Intel and Samsung

In March, Donald Trump began to strive to encourage the largest manufacturers of integrated circuits and processors to locate their factories in the United States. In the first reports, TSMC was mentioned, which is the largest player of this market, and its services are used by companies such as Qualcomm, Apple and Huawei. lahjapaperista pussi

Donald Trump's plan was originally another element of the trade war with China. The Americans wanted to persuade TSMC to stop working with Huawe. Now, however, the idea has returned in a new context - of course it is about the pandemic of Coronavirus and the crisis caused by it. These events also impress their mark on the production of integrated circuits.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Americans began to implement Trump's idea and began advanced talks with companies. Manufacturers themselves are also concerned about the future of this market - Pandemia showed how risky it is to completely dependence in production on companies operating in Asia. This is a threat particularly big for Apple and Qualcomm.

Donald Trump's administration is conducting talks with TSMC so that this company located its factory in the United States and produces processors for American producers in the latest lithography of 5 Nm, including systems with 5G support. Thanks to this, Apple would have more confidence in the constant supply of Bionic A14 systems intended for the iPhone 12 series. Also Qualcomm could produce its latest Snapdragons there.

Talks are conducted not only with TSMC. Officials of Donald Trump also urge to transfer their factories from China to the United States in Intel. This American manufacturer has its own facilities located in China, but he approaches understanding from this country. Greg Slater, vice president of Intel for technical matters, said that the current market situation is the perfect time to make such a decision, which thanks to increased demand will also pay off commercially.

In turn, the General Director of Intel, Bob Swan, sent a letter to the officials of the Defense Department, in which he states:

We believe that in the interest of the United States and Intel lies to examine how Intel can produce in the US to provide a wide range of microelectronics. We are ready to cooperate with the Department of Defense to expand domestic production, technology and workforce, creating a profitable commercial production line, which is necessary to meet the needs of the US government regarding security and infrastructure.

Talks are also conducted with Samsung. The Korean producer already has its own factory in Texas, but the administration of Donald Trump urges the company to expand its activities in the United States and produce components on behalf of, implementing the needs of American companies. It is primarily about producing systems in technology below 10 Nm.
